Patience – More than A Virtue
For a successful entrepreneur, patience is not just a virtue; it is a lifeblood. You are going to need a whole lot of it.
When I was an undergrad, my lecturer would tell us in class: “As a food scientist and technologist, you don’t need to look for a job when you graduate; simply start a food processing company and you will make a lot of money.” Really? Just like that?
To be sincere, the entrepreneurship path is not as smooth as people portray it. It’s more complicated than add one plus one to get two. Your customers’ needs are dynamic; trends change, and that is going to affect your business a lot. You are going to fail several times; you are going to have to deal with poor infrastructure (especially in Nigeria), poor government policies, lonely nights, confused moments, etc. In all these, you will need patience.
According to a popular reggae musician, “If you have faith you can move a mountain; all you need is a little patience.”
I’ve heard several people say, “If you give me X amount of money today, I will double it in three months with my business.” Guy, calm down! If you go into business with such a mindset, you are going to meet a lot of frustrations. Get set to develop the virtue of patience, if you must join the league of successful entrepreneurs.
Let’s look at the final element of the Sencrapatwise model.
